What are SnapWords?
A snap word is a word you can read in a snap! Practicing reading and writing these high-frequency words will help your child’s literacy grow!
How do you teach SnapWords to kindergarten?
- Look at each word in your group one at a time.
- Tell your child what the word says.
- Give her time to absorb the picture and comment on what she sees.
- Turn the card over and read the sentence, do the body motion, and then turn the card to the front again for a review of the word picture.
What are Power SnapWords?
Snap Word Power – In Kindergarten and First Grade students learn a lot of Snap Words, These are words we want readers to know how to read automatically, without sounding them out. This will free up brain energy to focus on the meaning of the story and more difficult words.
What is a snap or trap word?
“What does it mean to be a trap word?” (Trap words are irregularly spelled. They don’t make their regular sounds. Your job is to find the words that are high-frequency but not trap words. We will call them snap words because we can figure them out so easily, we know them in a snap!”
